Garrett Mills was educated at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, graduating with a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering with minors in Spanish and Ethnic Studies.
Just prior to graduating in 2002, Garrett started his career at Taylor & Syfan, starting out as a project engineer in the Central Coast office. Garrett relocated to Pasadena in 2005 to strengthen the Southern California office team. The partners were so impressed with his engineering and management abilities that they asked him to become Chief Operations Officer and a principal in the firm. Today Garrett is the acting COO overseeing the majority of the firm's work in Southern California.
Garrett is a licensed Structural Engineer and Civil Engineer, holding licenses in California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
In 2010, Garrett traveled to Bon Repos, Haiti (16 kn NE of Port au Prince) with eMi (Engineering Ministries International) where he commenced the structural design for a church-owned medical and school campus and assessed the level of damage to several structures affected by the 2010 earthquake. Since then, Garrett has returned to Haiti on five additional trips with eMi to continue the design and construction administration work of multiple community development organization campuses. Learning appropriate construction technologies for locally sourced materials and self-contained infrastructure is the primary emphasis for seeing these projects through to completion.
